SLPP MP Asanka Nawartne infected with COVID19

Kurunegala District MP Asanka Nawaratne  has tested positive for Covid-19. Mr Nawaratne who represents the Sri Lanka Mahajana Party (SLMP) was elected to Parliament from the Sri Lanka Podujana Party (SLPP(

Late last week Minister Bandula Gunawardena too tested positive and requested his staff members who had associated him to take precautions.

Meanwhile Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Hambantota District Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Dilip Wedarachchi who were tested positive earlier have recovered.

Several other members too have been infected with the virus in recent weeks.  State Ministers Janaka Wakkumbura and Prsanna Ranaweera were among them.

Others were Matale District MP Rohana Dissanayake and Badulla District MP Janaka ThissaKutti Aracchi . Dr. Thilak Rajapaksa, and Jaffna District Parliamentarian Gajen Ponnambalam were also infected.

Health Minister Pavithra Wanniaarachchi and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa too were infected and recovered earlier.
