Loss-making Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation (SLRC) and the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) are to be merged and transformed to a public company.
This was revealed at the recent meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Mass Media chaired by Media Minister Bandula Gunawardena.
Presenting statistics from 2015, the minister pointed out how these two channels have made losses.
He disclosed that the SLRC has made a loss of Rs. 277 million in the 2023 and the SLBC has made a loss of Rs. 457 million in the same year.
He noted that the Treasury is not in a position to provide funds for these two corporations and there are plans to convert the SLRC and SLBC Corporation into a public company.
The Cabinet Ministers has decided to appoint a committee to take further action. (Bandula)
