A Special Task Force sergeant has succumbed to his injuries two months after being caught in a landslide on the Southern Expressway at Imaduwa, Police said today (December 19).
The Sergeant was part of a team which had been called in following in a landslide that occurred near the 101.4 R post on the Southern Expressway in Imaduwa due to heavy rains on October 11.
Police and STF officers had arrived at the disaster site to investigate an accident caused by the landslide, when another landslide occurred at the same place.
The Sergeant was injured in the second landslide.
He was admitted to the Karapitiya hospital, where he was receiving treatment in the intensive care unit until his death yesterday.
He was identified as Vaduge Damith Nishantha Fernando, attached to the Pinnaduwa sub-unit of the Southern Expressway. He is 42 years old and a resident of Walawwatta Road in the Kalutara area.
The last rites will take place tomorrow.
