Election officials used Safari jeeps to transport ballot boxes from a remote polling booth set up at the edge of the Wilpattu national park in the Puttalam district.
Officials travelled 41 km to return back to the Puttalam district Secretariat after conducting the election in the Pukulama fisheries village.
District Secretary H.M.S.P. Herath said that the booth is located three kilometers off the Kudiramalai point and the officials after a difficult journey returned by Thursday night.
He said the Wilpattu park area had received heavy rains and therefore it had taken three hours for the officials to return.
The fisheries village has 60 families living there and 184 persons were eligible to vote.
The Wildlife officials extended support to transport the ballot box and the 15 officials involved in the poll.
