Supporters of the Sarvajana Balaya group led by MPs Wimal Weerawansa and Gevindu Kumaratunga held a protest near the parliament roundabout on Wednesday against the proposed Bill to establish a Commission for Truth, Unity and Reconciliation in Sri Lanka.
Mr. Weerawansa who addressed the crowd said that the enacting of the Bill would lead to the betrayal of members of the armed forces who fought valiantly to defeat terrorism in the country.
“This Bill is meant to punish members of the armed forces who sacrificed life and limb for this country,” he said.
The crowd held placards calling on the government to withdraw the Bill.
The Bill to set up a Commission for Truth, Unity and Reconciliation in Sri Lanka was gazetted by the government recently.
