A search has been launched for a Police Constable to tried to help underworld gang leader Nadun Chinthaka alias 'Harak Kata' to escape from the CID headquarters while being questioned.
The PC has been identified as Sandeepa Gunasekara.
The Policeman reportedly provided his fellow policemen with milk toffees induced with drugs assuming that his colleagues would be dazed by the drugs. However, since the milk toffees were bitter in taste they had not consumed them.
Around the same time the milk toffees were served the suspect had claimed he wanted to go to the toilet.
An STF guard had accompanied him to an upper floor. Returning from the toilet he tried to overpower the STF person and escape, but the officer had managed to control him and prevent his escape.
Meanwhile the PC reportedly involved in the escape attempt has now disappeared.
He had tried to escape with his mobile phone, but accidently taken the phone of another colleague and fled.
Police has officially released his photograph asking for public assistance to trace him.
