Police and military personnel have been deployed near mosques in Akurana and Gampola after calls of possible bomb threats, Police said.
Police media spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said there have been calls to the police emergency hotline on bomb explosions on Ramadan festival day.
This year’s Ramadan falls on the anniversary of Easter bomb attacks carried out by extremist Muslim groups.
SSP Thalduwa said plans are ahead to tighten security in leading mosques as well.
He said that though they had no confirmation about the threats, they did not want to take any chances.
