A Parliamentary Select committee has called for proposals on electoral reforms on election laws and the system.
The Committee is in the process of identifying appropriate reforms of the election laws and the electoral system to recommend necessary amendments.
The general public and interested organisations have been requested to send in their proposals under the headings of ‘Proposals requested for electoral system’,’ proposed reforms for election laws and other consequential matters’ before June 19, 2021.
The Select Committee is headed by Foreign Minister and Leader of the House of Parliament Dinesh Gunawardena.
Accordingly, the Secretary to the Committee and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament and Chief of Staff Mrs. Kushani Rohanadeera, on behalf of the Committee, request the public and any interested organisations to submit their proposals to the Committee in writing or by e-mail at sec.pscelectionreforms2021@parliament.lk .
Written proposals and ideas should be sent addressed to the Secretary to the Select Committee of Parliament, Parliament of Sri Lanka, Sri Jayawardenapura, Kotte.
If the Committee intends to obtain oral evidence from the delegates, the relevant parties will be summoned to appear before the Committee in due course, Mrs. Rohanadeera said.
Cabinet Mnisters Nimal Siripala De Silva, Prof G.L. Pieris, M.U.M Ali Sabri; State Ministers Jeevan Thondaman; MPs Kabir Hasheem, Ranjith Madduma Bandara, Mano Ganeshan, M.A, Sumanthiran, Madura Vithanage and Sagara Kariyawasam participated at the meeting.
