Shaffter’s death a murder, Court rules

Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya ruled that the death of businessman and Director of Janashakthi Insurance Dinesh Shaffter was an act of crime.

The Magistrate also ordered the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to arrest those involved in the murder and produce before courts.

Customs seize Rs. 119 Mn worth of cigarettes and whisky hidden in furniture shipment

In a major detection at the Ceylon Shipping Lines (CSL) warehouse in Colombo 09, Sri Lanka Customs officers uncovered a large consignment of contraband cigarettes and whisky concealed within a shipment declared as household furniture and personal goods.
