Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena praised corporal B.R.K.L Karunaratne of the Sri Lankan Infantry who intervened and prevented a major accident of a bus, which could have which falling into a cliff while traveling from Kandy to Mahiyangana. The soldier’s quick action prevented the accident and saved the lives of more than fifty passengers of the bus.
When the bus was traveling via Ududumbara on 26.05.2023, the driver was thrown out of the driver's seat and the bus was running without the driver for about fifty meters. At that time, the army corporal who was traveling in the bus took immediate action and managed to stop the bus which was running without a driver towards a big cliff with great effort and managed to prevent a major accident.
