The Supreme Court has determined that some clauses of the Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill is inconsistent with the Constitution, Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena announced in Parliament this morning.
However, the court has noted that these inconsistancies would cease if the amendments proposed by the Deputy Solicitor General are moved at the Committee Stage of the debate, the Speaker further said.
The bill had been challenged in the Supreme Court in terms of Article 121(1) of the Constitution.
