The Ministry of Public Security will introduce a dedicated hotline for the police from January 1 to handle calls related to women and children being victimised by underworld activities, drugs and other crimes.
The hotline, which is being introduced under special instructions of Public Security Minister Tiran Alles, will function under the supervision of the Acting Inspector General of Police. Once introduced, any person in any part of the island can contact this hotline and inform the problems they are facing to police in a language of their choice.
The call center which the hotline is connected to will be manned 24 hours a day by Women Police Officers. Addressing the media during a series of events held in the Southern Province, Minister Alles the objective of the new hotline is to provide a service that safeguards people's privacy and that women and children can trust.
