Mrs. Rekha Sanjeewani Rajasinghe, Assistant Director of the Marine Unit of the Department of Wildlife Conservation – Sri Lanka, has been selected as the new Chair of the Northern Indian Ocean Marine Turtle Task Force under the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS) Marine Turtle Memorandum of Understanding.
This is the first time Sri Lanka is taking on this important leadership role, representing not only our country but also the regional commitment to protect endangered marine turtles.
The Task Force includes representatives from Sri Lanka, India, Maldives, Bangladesh, and Pakistan, and works together to conserve marine turtles across the Northern Indian Ocean.
Mrs. Rajasinghe was officially nominated during the 2025 regional meeting. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity and her commitment to strengthen collaboration, improve conservation efforts, and lead joint actions for the benefit of marine turtle populations in the region
