The World Bank is set to approve US dollars 700 million in budgetary and welfare support for Sri Lanka later this month when the Board conducts its next meeting, according to sources from the Bank.
US dollars 500 million of the funding will be for budgetary support and will be made available in two tranches of equal amounts, following approval.
The balance US dollars 200 million is due for programmes to reduce poverty which will be a boost to the Government’s poverty eradication programmes due to come into effect in July.
The Board meeting of the World Bank is due to be held on June 28.
