Sri Lanka has offered assistance of rescue services to Turkiye where more than 2,000 persons have been killed due an earthquake.
Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabry, on the instructions of President Ranil Wickremsinghe has offered the assistance, the President’s Media Division said.
The 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Turkey and Syria on Monday has also left more than 3,000 injured and search operations are still underway.
Foreign Ministry sources said that 13 Sri Lankans living in Turkiye have been traced and they are out of danger. However one more Lankan was yet to be traced.
Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in a condolence message said “My thoughts and prayers are with the people of Turkiye and Syria as they confront the devastating effects of the earthquake. The loss of life and the destruction of homes and communities is heartbreaking. We stand in solidarity with those affected and offer our support.”

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
Update: Five of the twelve passengers on board the bell 212 aircraft that crashed into the Maduru Oya today, have succumbed to their injuries, the SLAF said.
