UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk encouraged Sri Lanka to implement the recommendations of a dozen UN mandate holders who had previously visited the country.
“In Sri Lanka, although the government has regrettably rejected aspects of the Council's resolutions related to accountability, it has continued to engage with our presence on the ground,” the UN Human Rights Chief said today while addressing the 53rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva today.
Sri Lanka has received a dozen visits by mandate-holders in the past decade, including Special Rapporteur (SR), and a Working Group (WG) to the country, even though the successive governments rejected UN Resolutions that called for accountability and meaningful reconciliation.
