Sithara Khan Azard assumed duties as Sri Lanka’s first female Ambassador to Qatar yesterday (January 23) at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Doha.
In her address to the staff, she outlined the Government of Sri Lanka's priorities, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations, promoting trade and investment, and enhancing people-to-people ties between the two nations.
A career diplomat, Khan Azard joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1998.
She has held key positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, and at Sri Lankan missions in London, Chennai, Doha, and Ottawa, where she served as Deputy High Commissioner and Acting High Commissioner the most recent being the Additional Secretary for SAARC and Latin America and the Caribbean.
Khan Azard holds a BA from the University of Peradeniya and a Master's in English from the University of Madras, India.
