The first consignment of 12,500 kilo grams of Sour Bananas is to be flown to Dubai later this month.
The bananas are to be exported from the Rajanganaya Ambul Banana Park, which has been cultivated under the Agri-Demonstration Park program started all over the island by the Agriculture Sector Modernization Project (ASMP) of the Ministry of Agriculture.
Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera says that all arrangements have been made to export the first consignment of sour bananas to the Dubai Market on November 26.
The Agricultural Sector Modernization Project has provided financial support, new technical knowledge, advice and training to the farmers. Plant Banana seedlings in the Zigzag method, providing drip irrigation technology and necessary equipment, cultivating other crops in addition to banana cultivation as well as connecting business organizations under the buy-back scheme to earn higher income for the farmers.
For the first time from Sri Lanka, 12,500 kg of sour bananas in a 40 feet container will be exported to the Dubai market.
After that, arrangements have been made to send 12,500 kg of sour bananas to the Dubai market every Saturday, says Dr. Rohan Wijekoon, Director of the Agriculture Sector Modernization Project.
