An open verdict has been delivered by the Judicial Medical officer of the Elpitiya base hospital over the death of a 15 year old student who became unwell after ingesting a fish bun.
The student of the Mapalagama Sirisunanda National School passed away Thursday october 05,2023 at the Elpitiya base hospital while receiving medication
The incident had taken place on October 02, 2023 at the children’s day celebration of Mapalagama Sirisunanda National School. The boy identified as K.A Didula Sandeepa had consumed one of the 650 fish buns offered to the students by some bakery producers.
The boy had thrown up and showed some allergic reactions, therefore the student was first admitted to Niyagama hospital on the same day. The boy had also thrown up during his trip to the hospital. Afterwards the student was transferred to Elpitiya base hospital on October 03,2023.
The Judicial medical officer at the Elpitiya Hospital P.W.L.S Sandaken Waduge gave an open verdict on the death of the boy.
Coroner at the Elpitiya, Gamini Dias said that the samples from the body have been sent to the government analyst. He added that he is awaiting reports from government analysts to give a verdict on the death of the 15 year old boy.
The Coroner also explained that he is expecting the report within two weeks.
