The Supreme Court has ruled that awarding free marks to the three questions allegedly leaked before the Grade 5 scholarship exams violates fundamental rights.
The Supreme Court bench comprising Justices Yasantha Kodagoda, Kumuduni Wickremasinghe and Arjuna Obeysekere ordered the Examinations Commissioner General to implement a suitable recommendation from among the three given by the experts' committee appointed to probe the matter.
The Court has also ordered the former Director - Planning of the National Institute of Education (NIE) I.G.S. Premathilaka and Chaminda Kumara Ilangasekara, a tuition master from Alawwa, who were arrested in connection with the leaking of the question, to pay Rs. 3 million and Rs. 2 million respectively as compensation to the State.
