Police have arrested a suspect on charges of fraudulently obtaining Rs. 130, 000 to get a body released from the Colombo National Hospital.
Police Media Unit said Maradana Police had commenced an investigations into a complaint that the suspect had approached the brother of a person whose body had been found near a bridge in Maradana on October 28.
The suspect had allegedly told the brother of the deceased that the body will be released quickly if money was paid to the judicial officers, hospital staff and police. He had then obtained Rs. 130, 000 from the brother of the deceased on the pretext of getting the body released.
After commencing investigations into the incident, Police arrested the suspect from Punchi Borella yesterday (6). The suspect is a 45-year-old resident of Wellampitiya. Maradana Police are conducting further investigations.
