A suspect who stole four gold coins from a Kovil has been arrested, Jaffna Divisional Criminal Investigation Unit Police said today (December 13).
A 26 year old resident of Kokuvil ws arrested last night when the Police had conducted an examination of a suspicious individual on the Kasthuriya Road, who was discovered to be in possession of four gold coins and 2g 120mg of heroin.
Upon questioning the suspect, it was revealed that he had stolen the four gold coins from a Kovil in Suruvil. He was also involved in a robbery of gold coins and gold necklaces worth Rs. 1.7 million from a Kovil in Kayts.
The Police had also discovered a motorbike purchased from selling the stolen gold items and seven balls of gold, weighing 26.5g, smelt from stolen gold necklaces and pendants. The Jaffna Police are conducting further investigation.
