Plans are underway to establish a Table-salt factory at the Elephant Pass saltern soon.
The directive was given after the Minister of industries, Ramesh Pathirana visited the Elephant Pass yesterday to observe the current progress of the saltern.
The Elephant Pass salt company was re-established in 2016. It produced 5211 Metric Tons of Salt within 2021.
According to the new project there are plans to set up a table salt factory at the southern part of the saltern. The factory would produce five Metric Tons of salt within an hour.
Minister Pathirana said that the development of the Saltern would also bring economic benefit to the people in the area and would make a positive impact for the overall economy of the country.
He added that employees at the slattern too would benefit from the earnings made by the production of salt.
