The Tourism Development Authority planning to invite more than 1000 bloggers from foreign country to boost the country’s image aimed at attracting more tourists to the country.
Also part of the programme would be to attract more German tourists in wake of adverse advisories and negative reports which has prevented visitors from there.
The Chairman Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Priyantha Fernando told a news conference that they have planned to invite 1000 bloggers to Sri Lanka to allow them to give the real picture of Sri Lanka’s situation and provide an insight of tourism experiences obtained.
He also added that the move itself would dispel misconceptions on Sri Lanka’s situation.
Dr Dietmar Doering, head of Asian-German Sports Exchange Program (AGSEP) said that Negative travel advisories made on Sri Lanka have given the wrong impression to Germans those who were interested in vesting in Sri Lanka.
Some of the travel advisories issued were of unsafe travel conditions due to “Aragalaya” Protests, disruption of supply chains experienced last year.
He added that he had been living in Sri Lanka for over 40 years, had lived in Sri Lanka during the pandemic Aragalaya protest season and had not experienced shortages and or did not face unsafe travel conditions.
He added that they would express that Sri Lanka from 1970 to 2018 had 2.3 million tourist arrivals, while Vietnam in 2018 had 18 million tourist arrivals.
He said that if Sri Lanka reaches nine million tourists staying for 10 days and each spending over 280 dollars a day Sri Lanka would not need to go for the International Monetary Fund and maintain foreign reserves.
