Thousands of Hindu devotees from various parts of the country and diaspora took part in the chariot festival of Nallur Kandaswamy temple in Jaffna today. The ceremony saw Hindu devotees taking part in religious activities despite the heavy rains that poured over one hour.
Lord Skanda, decorated with golden garlands arrived at the chariot by 7.30 am and the event ceremony came to an end by 10.00 am. At least 150,000 devotees took part in the ceremony, according to an official from Jaffna Municipal Council (JMC).
The JMC along with Temple Trustees and Police made a special arrangement for the devotees to worship lord Skanda with transport facilities, dhana donation camps etc in the vicinity of the temple streets.
Over 350 police personnel have been deployed for security purposes around the temple. (Pix by N.Lohathayalan)
