Three individuals have been placed under arrest on suspicion of allegedly extorting Rs. 1.5 million from Mr. Janaka Ratnayake, the former head of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL).
Mr. Ratnayake is said to have filed a complaint at the Kirulapone Police Station, claiming to have received a phone call from a person intended to have been hired to kill him and requesting Rs. 1.5 million in exchange for his life.
The Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) was thereafter tasked with investigating the former PUCSL Chairman’s accusation, as per orders of the Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) of Police overseeing the Western Province.
