Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, Sate Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna and MP Duminda Dissanayake have decided to take legal action against the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) for removing them from their positions in the party without prior notice.
The MPs held the positions of Senior Vice President, Treasurer and National Organizer of the party respectively.
They were removed from the positions at an Executive Committee meeting held today at the party headquarters.
Thereafter, the party appointed Sarath Ekanayake as Senior Vice President, Hector Bethmage as Treasurer and K.P. Gunawardena as National Organiser.
Senior Vice President of the SLFP Rohana Luxman Piyadasa said that the three members were removed the positions were expressing views opposed to the party decisions.
He said that they have only been removed from the positions they held, but not been sacked from the party.
Minister Amaraweera was formally sacked from SLFP on June 1, 2022 for accepting cabinet positions, but returned to the party later.
