On December 23, Kurunegala Police arrested two suspects with 10.3 grams of heroin in their possesion. Further interrogation of the suspects led police to recover two motorbikes that had allegedly been stolen by the suspects from the Kurunegala police area, Police Media Unit stated.
Based on further information provided by the suspects, police also arrested another suspect connected to the motorbike thefts the same day with 5.2 grams of heroin in his possession. All three suspects were held and questioned under detention orders, leading police to uncover that they were responsible for motorbike thefts in the Wellawa and Mawathagama police areas.
The three suspects are aged 17 and 18 years and are residents of Wellawa and Maraluwawa.
Police have so far recovered three of the stolen motorbikes with their parts removed. The suspects were produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate's Court yesterday and remanded till January 4, 2023. Kurunegala Police are conducting further investigations.
