Secretary-General of the Commonwealth Patricia Scotland arrived in the country last evening.
The Secretary-General and the three-member delegation from the Commonwealth Secretariat were welcomed by Foreign Affairs State Minister Tharaka Balasuriya and officials from the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Ms.Scotland was officially invited by President Ranil Wickremesinghe to attend the 75th Independence Day commemoration event.
The Secretary-General will also deliver the inaugural lecture of Ocean think-tank, the Geopolitical Cartographer on Friday. Her lecture will be on “The role of the Commonwealth in an era of poly-crisis.”
