Two persons and a van carrying 323 mobile phones, which were smuggled into Sri Lanka through the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) were detected last evening (3) on the Katunayake Highway, a senior Police officer said.
The officer said that 246 new unused mobile phones and 77 mobile phones used in foreign countries were among the seized stock.
The suspects were identified as a 21-year-old resident of Colombo-12 and a 43-year-old resident of Wattala who were transporting the mobile phones to Colombo in a van.
The seized stock of mobile phones along with the suspects and the van were handed over to the Peliyagoda Police Headquarters for further investigation.
