Two policeman have been remanded for negligence of their duties by failing to take action in an incident where a man was assaulted and left by the roadside later to be runover by a bus in the Weligama area,
Police spokesman Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana said that the two policemen have been remanded until May 28.
According to initial investigations, a 48-year-old man Colombo Port employee whose family was under quarantine had gone out to be buy food items for the family after informing the area PHI.
However on his way to the market he was interrupted by another bike rider and assaulted and left behind on the road. At the time of the assault two policemen had arrived at the scene, but not taken action.
After the man fell down on the road the two policemen as well as the man involved in the assault had left.
A bus passing by had run over the man subsequently.
