Two COVID-19 patients who had been discharged from hospitals have died at home in Galle, with their deaths being ruled as having occurred due to complications from the disease.
The deceased are a 73-year-old female from Wawulagoda, Hikkaduwa and a 59-year-old male from Vijayagama, Boossa.
The female COVID patient had been discharged from hospital on May 20 with authorities deeming her to have 'recovered' from the disease. She died at home on May 31. The male patient had been discharged from hospital on May 28, but died at home on May 31.
PCR tests conducted on the bodies of the two deceased persons by the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital showed that both persons still had the disease at the time of death. Taking the evidence into consideration, JMO Sagarika Nilmini ruled that both deaths had occurred due to medical complications arising from COVID-19.
