Two tea estates of the Hayleys Plantations have been under lockdown since Tuesday due to a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases found in Hatton and Dickoya.
Ingestre Estate in Dickoya and Fordyce Estate in Hatton have been completely locked down due to 33 COVID-19 positive cases since May 4, Hayleys Plantations Managing Director D Roshan Rajadurai told the Times Online.
He noted that this is likely to have occurred as a result of people coming from Colombo to the estates during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year season.
Due to the lockdown the company has already arranged for food to be delivered to the residents on the two estates as they have been asked not to venture out of their homes.
Mr. Rajadurai explained that more checks are being carried out on the estates and on other plantations as well. (SD)
