Two Sri Lankan youths were arrested by immigration border control personnel at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) today (25) after attempting to escape to Austria using fake visas prepared by a smuggler.
The two young men aged 25 and 27 involved in the incident were identified as residents from Kilinochchi and Mullivaikkal areas.
They arrived at BIA today morning at 7:30 a.m. to leave for Istanbul, Turkey on Turkish Airlines flight TK-731.
Suspicious of these Austrian visas which were among the documents they submitted to Turkish Airlines officials for aviation clearance, were later on forwarded to the BIA’s Immigration Border Inspection Unit.
Initial investigations revealed forged visas were prepared by an agent in the Borella area.
Accordingly, the officers of the Immigration and Emigration Border Control Unit arrested the two and handed them over to the Criminal Investigation Department of BIA for further investigations.
