The United Kingdom on Tuesday urged Sri Lanka to re-consider UK’s recommendation to repeal sections of the Penal Code to end criminalization of same-sex conduct.
The UK’s statement for the Universal Periodic Review adoption of Sri Lanka at the 53rd Human Rights Council, stated that Sri Lanka needs ensure equality in relation to sexual orientation and gender identity.
The UK also urged Sri Lanka to re-consider its position on the UK’s recommendation relating to commemoration and memorialisation of victims of the civil war.
“We welcome Sri Lanka’s support for the UK’s recommendation relating to concerns around land expropriation and restrictions in the north and east by government departments,” the statement said.
