UK’s assistance to probe Easter Sunday attacks: Acting President

The Acting President, Ranil Wickramasinghe, today declared that he wants to request the UK government to investigate the Easter Sunday attacks.  
 
The Acting President in a special statement said the long-standing issue of the Easter Sunday attacks continues and he was expecting to request the assistance of the UK Government and their intelligence services.
Noting that when he assumed office as Prime Minister on May 13, the economy had collapsed.  However, power cuts have been reduced from 5 hours to 3 hours, while fertilizer and gas have been provided to the country, within his two months in office. 
 
Although the fuel supply is expected to be tedious in July, diesel stocks are being distributed while petrol will be distributed from July 21, he said.  
 

He explained various steps taken to recover the collapsed economy. 
 
“Loans taken by paddy farmers who have planted fields less than 2 acres have been cancelled while fuel prices have been reduced in accordance to world prices.”, he said.
 
He added that negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are nearing the conclusion and discussions for assistance with foreign countries are also progressing.
 
Stating that the current political crisis in the country is due to the Executive Presidency, the Acting President said he has decided to re-introduce the 19th Amendment. 
 
Addressing the long-standing issue of Easter Sunday attacks, the Acting President is expecting to request the assistance of the UK Government and their intelligence services.
 
He also explained his decision to prohibit various elements within society that are disrupting the peace, to ensure the country’s progress. 
 
Peaceful protesters who have legitimate concerns would be engaged by the Government and solutions would be found for them.
 
The Acting President requested political parties to form an All-Party Government which would allow the country to recover from the economic crisis.

    Hopefully this is not part of his campaign for election on the 20th.
