The General Secretary of the United National Party (UNP) Palitha Range Bandara has proposed that both Presidential and Parliamentary elections to be postponned for two years thorough Parliament followed by a referendum.
Mr Range Bandara addressing a press conference today said that the priority at this moment is debt restructuring and obtaining the facilities from the IMF and it is President Wickremesinghe who has the knowledge and international relations to achieve that.
He said therefore it is necessary for the Parliament to pass a resolution to delay the elections by two years and thereafter it could be reconfirmed by a referendum.
He said a democratic process should be followed, instead of just saying that elections have been postponed for two years.
“The expenditure on elections also could be saved and it will help to prevent the country getting bandrupt again’, he said.
