Police have launched a manhunt for the gunman and an accomplice who shot dead a retired assistant superintendent of prison at Akmeemana today.
Police said the victim had been sweeping his gardens when the pillion rider on a motorcycle shot at him.
He was found dead on admission to the Karapitiya hospital.
Police said no motive for the killing was know yet.
The victim, an Assistant Superintendent of Prison who last served at the Boosa prison has been identified as 61 year old Cyril Dhammika.
