Clashes between various underworld gangs continue to claim victims on a regular basis.
A 39-year-old male was killed and a 43-year-old male was injured last night (23) in an attack in Matugama that has also been attributed to gang violence.
The victims were attacked with sharp weapons.
Police say they are close associates of Dodangoda Liyanage Shan Arosha alias "Matugama Shan," a leader of an organised criminal gang.
The deceased, identified as Indika Thushara, a resident of Bopitiya, Matugama, died after admission to hospital while the injured person, identified as Uday Samantha Munidas, is receiving treatment for his injuries.
Investigations are underway to arrest those involved.
