Unit 3 of the Lakvijaya coal power plant in Norochcholai will be shut down from June 13 for a period of 100 days for scheduled major overhaul maintenance work, Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekara said. However, he insisted that power generation will be managed without any power cuts with other thermal power plants.
He further added that with the 30th cargo of coal currently unloading at Norochcholai, the full coal requirement of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) for this season will be completed.
"There will be No Black Outs or Power Cuts as speculated earlier by CEB unions & media reports due to Coal shortages," the minister further stated.
