Sagala Ratnayaka, Senior Advisor on National Security to the President and Chief of Presidential Staff, has directed relevant authorities to take immediate measures to mitigate the risk of dengue outbreaks in Colombo, exacerbated by ongoing heavy rains.
Ratnayaka emphasized the urgency of the situation and instructed that a special awareness campaign be conducted through the Ministry of Education. This campaign will target school students and parents, providing crucial information and guidelines to prevent dengue. The awareness activities are scheduled to take place during the Dengue Eradication Week, from May 26 to June 1.
The directive underscores the importance of community involvement and education in combating the spread of dengue, especially during periods of increased rainfall, which can create breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
