The vacant post of Parliamentary leader of Tamil National Alliance (TNA) following the recent demise of late veteran leader R. Sampanthan caused intra-party disagreements among the constituent parties in the alliance, party sources said.
Leaders of Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO) Selvam Adaikalanathan and People's Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) D. Siddarthan turned out to be front runners to the post of the alliance in which Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi (ITAK) is the main constituent party.
The party’s Central Committee which met last night considered the bid for Parliamentary Leader post from the alliance partners and decided to offer to Mr Adaikalanathan under the condition of reassuring that his party will continue to remain in the alliance.
The conditional offer came in the wake that other political parties are involved in setting up a new electoral alliance without ITAK in recent times.
