The Sri Lanka Mission in Thailand has recently uncovered a racket of Sri Lankan nationals being enticed for employment in Thailand particularly for the positions in the Information Technology (IT) sector by suspicious IT firms engaged in call-centre scams and crypto currency fraud, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a Press Release.
Victims are illicitly extracted from the border of Thailand primarily into Myanmar and incarcerated to work under stringent conditions whilst some of the victims have also been apprehended by authorities for illegal entry.
All these victimized Sri Lankans have arrived in Thailand on tourist visas, giving the word of converting their same to work visa after arrival, which has not been well-off.
In light of this dubious event, Sri Lankan nationals are warned not to get lead on and decoyed in such counterfeit job offers and are also requested to take on extreme measures to verify the background of recruiting agents including companies before accepting any offer of employment.
It is further advised to acquired accurate Thai visa details from the Thai Immigration Bureau Website: www.immigration.go.th
