The Leader of the National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa today accused the police for distorting a statement he had provided regarding a suspect arrested over drug trafficking.
The reaction from Mr Weerawansa came after the Police Media Division said that he had made several false statements regarding the suspect and they plan to take action against the former minister.
But, Mr Weerawansa claimed that his three hour long statement to the police about the suspect known as Beliatte Sana was distorted by the police Media division.
Mr Weerawansa had claimed that ‘Sana’ was closely associated with the ruling NPP and he had supported them during the election campaign.
Police said that Weerawansa had claimed that he was referring to media reports.
Mr Weerawansa said that it was not the duty of the police to distort statements made to the police.
