President Ranil Wickremesinghe has directed that the government continues to provide allowances to senior citizens, disabled people, and kidney patients until a new criterion is presented, Minister of State Finance Shehan Semasinghe said.
The Minister in a tweet added that there wouldn't be any change for the new initiative of the ‘Aswesuma welfare benefit programme’ and it would be carried as planned earlier.
Furthermore, “We have received 760,000 appeals and 10,000 objections which will be evaluated at the earliest to target assistance to those who are most in need and ensure equitable distribution of resources” he added.
Through the ‘Aswesuma programme’, the government targets on helping the extremely poor category of families.
