The village of Wilpola in Aranayake has been placed in isolation since last evening (19) after 13 persons in the village tested positive for COVID-19.
Area health officials stated that four members of the same family are among the infected. The other patients include four three-wheeler drivers and a nine-year-old child.
All were identified following a random PCR test conducted in the Wilpola area on January 15, Aranayake Medical Officer of Health Dr Rasanjana Mendis said.
Two schools in the village have been shut indefinitely from this morning due to the situation. Several local government offices including the Wilpola Grama Niladhari Office are also closed.
Four of the patients have already been moved to treatment centres while the others are due to be taken to treatment centres today (20).
With the latest infections, the number of identified COVID-19 patients in the Aranayake area has risen to 105.
