A woman from Hatton delivered a child waiting at the Immigration office in Battaramulla to obtain her passport this morning, officials said.
The woman had been in the queue overnight and suddenly developed labour pains.
The Army had helped to take the woman to the Castle hospital.
Hospital sources said the mother and child, a daughter were safe.
