A woman has been killed and seven others injured after a van collided with a lorry near the Kahathuduwa Interchange on the Southern Expressway early this morning (16).
Police said the van, carrying eight people, had been traveling towards Kadawatha from Galle when it collided with the lorry from behind. All those injured in the accident were in the van. The van's driver, a male passenger and two female passengers were rushed to the Homagama Hospital while three children who were injured were admitted to the Kalubowila Teaching Hospital. One of the female victims who was admitted to the Homagama Hospital subsequently succumbed to her injuries.
The deceased victim was a 35-year-old resident of Weerapana. Her remains are currently at the Homagama Hospital and Moragahahena Police are conducting further investigations.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
