The suspect who was arrested for making false claims of a bomb attack during the Ramadan festive season has been remanded until May 4.
The Police had received a warning about a possible bomb explosion to areas where Muslims gather on April 18 and April 19 and until the fact was confirmed, the STF and the Army was deployed in the areas.
In the wake of Ramadan, where a large Muslim population gather in Akurana and other areas, the Computer Crime Division of the Police had conducted an investigation and discovered that the warning was false.
Continuing their investigation, the Computer Crime Division was able to track down the provider of false information.
Accordingly a 21 year old, Izadeen Mohammed Sajith, a resident of Harispaththuwa Batagoda area was arrested in the morning today (April 22).
Investigations have revealed that the suspect has served as a Mawlawi.
The suspect was produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrate and remanded until May 4.
The Computer Crime Division is conducting further investigations.
