A 22-year-old man was was shot and injured last evening during an altercation in Vishwamadu East, Puthukkudiyiruppu.
Police said that the victim was involved in an altercation with another person when he was shot by a third person who had arrived on the scene. A locally manufactured firearm had been used in the shooting.
The victim, a resident of Bharathipuram, Vishwamadu, was admitted to the Kilinochchi Hospital with gunshot injuries before being transferred to the Jaffna Hospital for further treatment.
The suspect who allegedly carried out the shooting has been arrested and is due to be produced before the Mullaitivu Magistrate's Court today.
